Improving Social Skills

June 6, 2008 |

I’m going to share with you three ways of improving social skills.

The first way of improving is to read books. A personal development expert by the name of Matt Morris says that you can virtually be an expert by reading five books. The reason is because the average American or the average person in the world barely even read one book after graduation. So if you were to read five books on a single topic, it makes you an expert, bar none. Remember that you are only five books away from becoming an expert. So if you want to be an expert in social skills and to just have a simple way of improving it, then all you have to do is to borrow five books from the library on the topic. And guess what? It is free of charge.

The second way is to notice what irritates you. One very common thing that irritates people is having your friends talk too much without listening to them. When you are in a group, you commonly notice that everyone seems to be waiting for a chance to pounce into the conversation. One way you can immediately have an improvement is to be a listener instead of a talker. As you listen you’ll noticed that everyone who read would respect you for your listening skills and put more attention to what you’re saying and in turn make you more prominent in a group. This is a very simple and easy way of improving your social skills.

The last way is to look out for role models. As you go out in life, as you work or as you even interact with your friends, you’ll notice that there are some people you want to emulate. Their skills are something that you could pick up from. So all you have to do is to notice what it is that you like about them. This is a very quick way to help you socialize better.
