A different approach to marketing that turns it into a fun endeavor is educational marketing. Rather than shouting “Buy my product!” you actually give the prospects the information they need to understand their problem and offer possible solution. You can create a special report inexpensively and duplicate it for free to give away to your readers in exchange for their name and contact information. Here’s how you could do it.
It maybe worth mentioning that just because you give away a lot of information doesn’t mean that you can’t make money from it. There’s a different between giving away the store and educating. The core principle is to hand them the idea and sell the system.
An accountant may give everything she knows about bookkeeping to anyone who care to read his/her book or articles. Still, their service will be in demand. If she provides that amount of information for free, certainly she is going to get a lot more business because naturally people trust her more because of the expertise.
Special report is a marketing attraction tool. It is easy to produce and costs nothing if you put it up on your web site for download. This has high perceived value though that you can ask the prospects for their contact information before you send the report to their email.
Here’s how you can turn your existing articles into a special report:
1. Choose step-by-step or list articles
Pick a few articles, but make sure one or two of them contain the step-by-step or tips or any list for something. It will be the core of the special report. Use the other articles as the introduction or supportive content.
2. Expound the core article
The core article, for this example, is the step-by-step how to information. You can start with that but now you need more content. Expound the core articles to at least a few pages. This is easy if you have written an article out of each step.
3. Start with a strong intro
What makes people read is the title of the report, but you also need to start strongly with an oomph so the readers are interested to read through to find out more.
4. Add call to action
Remember, it is not just a tool to educate others. The special report is your marketing tool. After all the value that you give, you want to tell them what to do next. Perhaps it is an invitation to look at your product offer. May be it is a free subscription to your membership site.
Make the offer relevant and compelling. Put it at the end of the report. You may also sprinkle it in the special report.
5. Turn into PDF
Right now it is the most popular format for distributing documents across multiple platforms, so use that.
